Artist Spotlight: Post Malone
Written by Morgan Rosenbaum on December 9, 2019
The past few years have seen Post Malone skyrocket to the top of the rap world. Since 2016, the rap artist has gone from near anonymity to one of the biggest names in rap and hip hop music worldwide.
Born in Syracuse, NY, but raised in Grapevine, TX, the 24-year-old rapper burst onto the scene in 2016, touring with Justin Bieber for his “Purpose” World Tour, Stoney (his debut) was released near the end of the year. “Congratulations,” was released as a single and certified diamond, peaking at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went on to reach double platinum.
Post Malone’s most recent album, Hollywood’s Bleeding, was released in September of 2019. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and features a myriad of artists including (to the surprise of many) Ozzy Osbourne. In 2018, the rapper released “Sunflower” in collaboration with Swae Lee for the soundtrack to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
In 2018, Post Malone performed at Travis Scott’s inaugural Astroworld Festival. He also headlined his own festival, Posty Fest, in Dallas just a few weeks earlier. The rapper has been nominated for six Grammy awards, including two at the upcoming 2020 ceremony; Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Sunflower” with Swae Lee.
Post Malone is performing at Toyota Center on March 9th, 2020, with Swae Lee and Tyla Yaweh.
