Yep, you read that right – alt-J and Portugal. The Man are touring together this spring! Alt-J and Portugal. The Man have provided indie kids everywhere some of the best bops to date… and we’re so excited to finally see it live.
First on the bill is alt-J, an eccentric indie rock band hailing from the streets of Leeds, UK. Fans know them for their interesting sounds – peculiar at first glance, but then leading to a unique listening experience. Their first album, An Awesome Wave, is one of the greatest debut albums of all time. It includes hits we know and love such as “Breezeblocks,” “Tessellate,” and “Fitzpleasure.” In 2014, they released their sophomore album, This Is All Yours(which has everyone’s favorite song, “Left Hand Free“), another masterpiece that was even nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammys and won the Mercury Prize that same year.
In 2017, alt-J released their less-anticipated third album Relaxer, which unfortunately only had eight tracks and did not get as much hype as the first two albums. In February of this year, they’ve released their fourth studio album, called The Dream, having released promotional singles since the announcement. The first single, “U&ME,” perfectly encapsulates their tendency towards guitar-driven melodies and heavy production experimentation. This is also heard in the following singles “Get Better” and “Hard Drive Gold,” which were released in November and January, respectively.
The second headliner is Portugal. The Man – an Indie Rock band from Alaska and currently based in Oregon. The band sought success after their single “Feel It Still” became viral everywhere in 2017, and even won the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. Portugal. The Man has been active since 2004, and has released eight full-length studio albums and 15 promotional singles. While their last album, the critically acclaimed Woodstock, was released in 2017, they most recently released two singles with future tour openers Cherry Glazerr and Sir Chloe. Their newest single “What, Me Worry?” was released early this month.
