2014 Nostalgia and its Love Songs

Written by on February 14, 2024

As 2014 nostalgia is running rampant on TikTok, this year brought us many good love songs. Many of these remain iconic today and evoke nostalgia of Gen Z’s younger teenage years. Listening to these love songs this Valentine’s day will surely bring good vibes to the day.

1. “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay

This song is probably the most iconic on this list. At Coldplay’s concerts, they request that everyone put their phones down and just be in the moment as they perform this song. In a video posted by the band, it seems like such a magical experience to see this song live. This song is such an iconic song from Coldplay and an awesome love song.

2. “All of Me” by John Legend

This song is one of the most lovely love songs of the past decade. The lyrics are so meaningful and authentic. It truly speaks to how real and raw love can be while demonstrating that someone will love the “imperfect” things about the love of their life.

‘Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections

All of Me -John Legend

3. “Love Me Harder” by Ariana Grande and The Weeknd

This collaboration is such a fun mix of Ariana Grande’s and The Weeknd’s vocals. Ariana’s voice usually mixes well with anyone she collaborates with, so this upbeat jam was definitely a great song to come out of pop music in 2014. It’s always a good song to sing along to in the car even a decade later.

4. “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran really took off during this era of music, and his lyrics were on every teenage girl’s Tumblr blog. Even now, many couples play this song at their weddings, and the lyrics are so loving. This song, like “All of Me,” is a perfect reflection of true commitment to a partner and a great song to listen to on Valentine’s Day with a partner.

People fall in love in mysterious ways, maybe just the touch of a hand. Well, me, I fall in love with you every single day.

Thinking Out Loud -Ed Sheeran

5. “Classic” by MKTO

Similar to Love Me Harder, this song is a much faster tempo and upbeat song. It’s a catchy song about taking someone out on a date and giving them sweet compliments. Many vloggers on YouTube made lip syncing videos to this song when it came out as it was so catchy. If you’re not into slower love songs this Valentine’s Day, this is always a classic to listen to.

6. “18” by One Direction

This would be an incomplete list without a song from One Direction on it. This song has been used for many high school sweetheart’s weddings, and rightfully so. It’s a sweet song about young love and one of 1D’s most iconic love songs.

I have loved you since we were 18. Long before we both thought the same thing, to be loved and to be in love

18 -One Direction

2014 was the beginning of being a teenager for many of us who are now in college, so it can be fun to relive the era through music.
