On July 12th, 2024, Cage the Elephant brought the Neon Pill tour to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands. The show had a incredible lineup consisting of Willow Avalon, Bakar, Young the Giant and, of course, Cage the Elephant.
Kicking the night off was country singer, Willow Avalon. Her beaming presence and twangy voice gave for a wonderful and warm introduction to the show. She performed songs such as “Drivin,” “Honey Ain’t No Sweeter” and her recent viral hit, “Gettin’ Rich, Goin’ Broke.”
Next up was Bakar, a remarkable artist whose music defies easy categorization. His blend of rock, hip-hop and alternative styles made for an amazing performance. When it was time for his set to be over, the audience was hesitant to say goodbye but excited for the show to continue. Standout songs included “Alive!” and “Hell N Back.”
Following Bakar, Young the Giant, an alternative rock band hailing from California, took the stage. Right from the jump, the band brought all the energy. Their lively music and entertaining dance moves had the crowd on their feet, cheering with enthusiasm. As they performed hit after hit, the audience joined in, singing along to every word. From “Mind Over Matter” to the mesmerizing “Superposition,” Young the Giant delivered a spectacular performance, perfectly priming the crowd for the main act.
Closing out the night with an exhilarating performance was Cage the Elephant. As the lights dimmed, signaling the start of their set, the entire audience rose to their feet, buzzing with anticipation. It was clear that an unforgettable show was about to unfold.
The band kicked off with “Broken Boy,” accompanied by an impressive display of pyrotechnics. The excitement was palpable as lead singer Matt Shultz energetically leapt around the stage, engaging with the crowd. They kept the momentum going with “Cry Baby” and “Spiderhead,” maintaining an electrifying atmosphere throughout.
Their setlist had a perfect mix of songs that can be found throughout their entire discography, all the way from their first album, Cage the Elephant, to their newest album, Neon Pill. Each song had a fun accompaniment of a laser, light or pyro show. It kept everyone on their toes as they danced and sang along to their favorite songs.
Overall, all acts successfully mesmerized the crowd with their diverse instrumentals, powerful voices and boundless energy. It was a great night that left everyone sad to see it end. You can catch these four amazing artists at most of the remaining tour dates. Find the full schedule here!
