Peso Pluma brings his Éxodo Tour to Toyota Center

On Friday, July 26th, 2024, Peso Pluma performed at a sold out Toyota Center as part of his Exodo North American tour. The Mexican artist Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, has taken the Latin music world by storm. In recent years he has amazed fans all over the world, partaking mainly in the Regional Mexican genre, corridos and reggaeton.

The show kicked off with the lights out and “O Fortuna” sounding throughout the arena. “An antihero is among us” could be heard from the stage. As Peso Pluma rose from underneath the stage in a throne with his banda surrounding him, fans cheered. Having suffered an injury he had to wear a boot and use crutches on stage, but this didn’t stop him from giving it his all and delivering an amazing performance.

He kicked off the first act with hits “La Patrulla” and “La Durango.” He wore a mask while sitting on his throne and fans cheered as they heard his familiar, unique, nasally sharp voice. His dancers brought the energy with their matching black outfits, dancing around his throne. Peso Pluma hopped around on his uninjured leg hyping up the crowd, and used his crutches to walk down the long runway before tossing them off to the side. Act II was a more mellow vibe with him performing his emotional songs like “Luna” and “Bye.” He and his banda sat at the end of the runway. A shining floating moon floated around the stage setting the melancholy mood. Act III included his reggaeton hits “QLONA,” “La Bebe-Remix” and “QUEMA.” His dancers gave everything they had in their choreography and even Peso Pluma himself hit a few moves, injury and all. During act IV, he paid homage to Mexican corridos artists who have come before him, including Chalino Sanchez, Ramon Ayala, Jenni Rivera, Los Tucanes de Tijuana and many more. Video footage of these Mexican legends could be seen on the big screens, with newer Mexican artists included in the mix as well. Finally with Peso Pluma himself being shown on the screen, it was a touching moment that really showed the appreciation he had for his heritage.

The grand finale included classics that he is most known for such as “Lady Gaga”. As he thanked the fans for coming out and ended with “TEKA” as the last song, his dancers carried red flares and some even waved flame throwers around. He hopped around one final time until he was rolled back to center stage. Confetti blew everywhere in red, white and green in true Mexican style. The Mexican flag could even be seen illuminating the entire stage. “Que se escuche un fuerte grito de todo Houston Texas para la Doble P!” (Let’s hear a loud scream from all of Houston Texas for the double P!). The excitement could be felt throughout the entire arena, fans cheering for more. It was an impressive concert showcasing different types of Mexican music that I had never really jumped into before, but now I am eager to explore the rest of Peso Pluma’s discography. His Exodo tour is just getting started, so I definitely recommend going to see a show of his. He is sure to take the Latin music world in an exciting direction and will only grow more as the star that he is.
