Divine Expressions of Love: Rhayla’s Favorite Love Songs to Get in the Valentine’s Day Spirit
Written by Rhayla Candler on February 5, 2025
Whether you are doing Valentine’s Day alone, with a partner, or with your besties this year, love is a universal feeling for all to experience. Being that I spent so much of last year developing a new kind of love for myself, it prepared me to be able to honor myself while in a new relationship with my partner. Music has helped me through all of my ups and downs and showed me that love is still so prevalent in the human heart, despite the times. Today, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite songs, written about any type of love, that you may or may not know already!
“Juna” (2024) by Clairo
“Juna’s” sound follows the indie-dreamlike theme of Clairo’s album Charm, released last year. The lyrics detail the feelings that Clairo experiences while in a relationship with someone who makes her feel beautiful. Juna explores the way in which being with the right person can make you let go of the need to act and do and allow you to just feel free to be soft and loved. This track is the perfect addition to a love-playlist or even to send to your lover to let them know that they make you feel special.
“Work Song” (2014) by Hozier
“Work Song” is a powerful statement from Hozier that will take you a while to understand how one person can write about another in so profound of a way. To say that this song is just “about love” is severely understating this piece of art that is talking about a feeling that is possibly a bit deeper than what we understand love as. With strong themes of nature and death, Work Song is something you will want to sit with for a while!
“II MOST WANTED” (2024) by Beyonce ft. Miley Cyrus
“II MOST WANTED” is a track from Beyonce’s Album of the Year-winning Cowboy Carter. The song features Miley Cyrus and is a soft, folksy love song that translates to more than just romantic love. It is that “ride or die” kind of connection that Beyonce and Miley write about here in this song. It is one that I consider one of my favorites from this album and have belted out alone in my car more times than I can count.
“Endless Love” (1981) by Lionel Richie & Diana Ross
Most people know that infamous Friends scene where Chandler hugs the vinyl record while sitting in a chair. I have seen it shared as a meme so many times across the internet, with different albums replacing the one from the show. The song that he is listening and singing along to is “Endless Love” by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie, one that I regard as one of the best love songs ever written. It is a deep and soulful ballad that I hope will play at my wedding one day. Perfect song for Valentine’s Day!
“Big Time” (2022) by Angel Olsen
The last song I want to share is one that I found sometime last year. “Big Time” is an alternative-folk love song written by the ultra-talented, Angel Olsen. I played it once and then I played it again and again and again and again. If I had to pick my first dance song right now on the spot, it would without a doubt be this track. It is a great song to add to any playlist, especially if you are into artists like Noah Kahan and Sierra Ferrell.
