For those who still believe in finding love after experiencing hurt, Mariah the Scientist is the artist to turn your attention to. Her music allows listeners to feel every emotion that comes with love: yearning, happiness, pain, heartbreak and acceptance. Mariah writes very straightforward lyrics that one can immediately understand and find oneself relating to.

In true lover girl fashion, she wants nothing more than a perfect relationship. Even when it seems that nothing goes as expected, she is still hopeful in her lyrics. She captures love in a tragic way, a feeling many have a hard time conveying. She does not shy away from sharing her experiences, and such vulnerability can be appreciated by audiences.

Although Mariah has been releasing music since 2018, she gained popularity in 2023 with her song “Spread Thin” from her EP The Intermission. It was a song that connected with so many people as it describes leaving a relationship after constant dishonesty and neglect. The lyrics are paired with a chill R&B instrumental that creates a serene environment for the listener, like many of her other songs.

She currently has three albums that all share the theme of love but at different stages. Her debut album, MASTER, tells the story of heartbreak and deception and dealing with the mistreatment from a former partner. It is easy to relate to this album for people who have experienced a failed relationship. She touches on how hard it can be to let go of the memories and come to accept the relationship is over. Songs such as “Not a Love Song” and “Reminders” demonstrate that the most.

Her next two albums, RY RY WORLD and To Be Eaten Alive, go more in depth about wanting to be everything to someone and sharing positive aspects of love; how being in love is complex and carries a weight that can be hard to process. The albums have a different sound to them as she experiments with her production and more metaphorical lyrics. She is unafraid to pour her heart into her music, a trait that makes her even more enjoyable to listen to.
