The Next Generation of Indie Artists: Introducing…The Omies!

Written by on April 7, 2025

Pronounced (THē ōmēz) btw.

Ok, ok I know what you all are thinking reading this. “Who the %@$# are these people?!” Well am I very glad you asked. But first. Let me take you all a trip down in memory lane… and by that I mean mine. As you might know, Coog Radio helps promote events beyond campus, and one of them was a night to remember: Love Potion hosted by Off Record Media. (I really wish it had been a real love potion). This event was all about giving indie artists their moment to shine, a chance to own the stage and party the night away not just for themselves, but for everyone there, including me, ready to rock out and soak up the vibes

And then… they appeared.

The second they hit the stage, the night truly began. The crowd started to scatter and surge, filling the space with energy with the air buzzing with excitement. People yelled, shouted and moved with the music, completely lost in the sound. It was pure, unfiltered chaos in the best of ways possible.

Shortly after their performance ended the crowd erupted in cheers and I knew I had to speak with them. When I did, we talked for a while about their dreams, ambitions, and the goals they were striving toward. While I think it’s best to not share the details of our conversation, I will say this: they were more than just performers. They were a group of friends, bound by the same dream, pushing forward together.

“So…Spill it. What kind of music do that make?!”

Ok, ok I will tell you jeez. That night, their performances were nothing short of out of this world. Each artist took their turn in the spotlight and passing the energy from one performer to the next like a seamless relay. But what truly set them apart and what made the night unforgettable… was their unexpected fusion of jazz. The way they wove those smooth and yet very soulful melodies into their sound created something fresh and new. Almost electric. It wasn’t just music; it was an experience. When you hear indie rock you think of something sort of like:

The generic stereotype of most indie rock, but The Omies performed various versions of what Indie Rock can be.

In my opinion, the true measure of a band or artist’s success lies in how far they are willing to go to create something they’re genuinely proud of. Creativity isn’t just about making music. It is about crafting something that feels like art and something that reflects who you are and what you stand for. And when you do that, when you pour everything into your work, it becomes something worth sharing with the world.

That’s why I have no doubt that this small group is on the path to something much bigger. The Omies aren’t just making music; they’re putting in the work, driving all across Texas, bringing their sound to new ears, and proving their dedication with every performance. And soon enough, it won’t just be Texas. It’ll be the world.
