Sad Summer Festival Returns to Houston this July

Written by on June 14, 2022

After the Vans Warped Tour went on its final run back in 2018, there have been many shows and festivals that attempted to fill the “warped tour void.” In 2019, 8123 Media and Journeys gave us one of the best new festivals called the Sad Summer Festival, which highlights well-known emo and pop-punk acts. Since then, the festival has been a huge success and have included headliners such as All Time Low and The Maine. Sad Summer made its way to Houston in 2019, and will be returning to the White Oak Music Hall this July.

The Sad Summer Fest is providing us with a stacked lineup with bands who make us reminisce of our emo phase days. While notable acts like Against the Current, Neck Deep and State Champs are set to perform, the festival also marks the long-awaited return of The Summer Set – who went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016 after the release of Stories for Monday. The Summer Set released their comeback single called “Street Lightning” in August 2021, setting their reunion in motion.

Sad Summer Fest’s Houston show will also be the homecoming show for Houston-based band Waterparkswho just signed with label Fueled by Ramen. The band formed in 2011 and currently consists of members Awsten Knight, Geoff Wigington and Otto Wood. After their debut album Double Dare and sophomore album Entertainment led to the band’s ultimate success, they’ve appeared in numerous tours with bands like NeverShoutNever and Sleeping with Sirens, and have done multiple international headlining tours. Waterparks have been teasing a potential fifth album, and it will be a joy to see them again in their hometown.

Besides its incredible lineup, Sad Summer Fest is getting involved in the community and is partnering with local and national non-profits all summer long. While partnerships with Houston non-profits haven’t been announced, the festival is partnering up with three larger non-profits – Reverb, Headcount and Our Music My Body. They will also provide volunteer opportunities as the date gets closer.

This is an event you won’t wanna miss! Buy your tickets to attend the Sad Summer Festival 2022 at Houston’s White Oak Music Hall here.
