Austin City Limits 2024: Weekend Two Day Three Recap

On the final day of the festival, people walked in tired yet ready to watch there favorite artist perform. With Chappell Roan fans wearing pink and camping out, Zilker Park became covered in pink cowboy hats and bandanas. Along with Chappell Roan fans, here are all the artist Coog Radio covered.

Malcom Todd

At 2 pm on the T-Mobile stage, Malcolm Todd impresses a small crowd with his raspy vocals and insane guitar solos. Todd has had an exciting year, releasing his new album Sweet Boy and opening for Omar Apollo on the “God Said No” tour. Performing hits such as “Roommates,” “Hot in NY,” and “Mr. Incorrect,” Todd’s upbeat personality had fans jumping up and down throughout the whole set. A highlight was when he got off stage and signed a fan’s face with a Sharpie. Overall, Malcolm Todd is a must-watch for indie rock and bedroom pop fans.

Medium Build

At 3:25 pm on the Miller Lite stage, Medium Build delivered a cathartic performance wearing camouflage vests and fishing hats. The band had just returned to Austin after performing in Houston at the House of Blues with TikTok star Petey. After opening the set with ” Beach Chair,” lead vocalist and songwriter Nick Carpenter commented, “Last week, we learned that you have to dress to impress on this stage… We’ve never hunted or fished a day in our lives. Sorry for stealing your culture.” Carpenter’s lyricism is one of the band’s best qualities, in addition to his raw, emotional vocals. During the song”Rage” Carpenter opened up about his experience this year and gave the audience a chance to “rage” scream with him and let it all go. Carpenter thanked the crowd for “allowing us to play our journals for you.”

Bakar

At 3:45 pm on the T-Mobile stage, the artist from London, UK Bakar made a triumphant return to Austin City Limits for a second weekend. Sporting a black cowboy hat, he poured his heart into songs like “Alive,” “Big Dreams,” and “Right Here for Now” ‘ As the electric guitar harmonized with the kick bass and drums, Bakar’s soulful vocals blended seamlessly with the dancing rhythms. He concluded his set with the crowd-favorite’ Hell N Back, reaffirming his status among R&B and soul fans and his strong connection with the festival.

Cannons

At 4:45 pm on the American Express stage, the Los Angeles-based band Cannons performed to a large crowd patiently camping out for Chappell Roan. The lead singer’s voice was smooth and soft as the group performed songs such as “Hurricane,” “Crush,” and “Loving You.” The vocalist shared how the band started ten years ago, writing songs at a tequila bar. Now they perform at Austin City Limits, a fate they did not expect. In a tribute to their growth, they played on of first songs “Evening Star,” a great edition to the set. Overall, the excellent pop sound is for fans of great live music with a hint of synths.

Kevin Abstract

At 5:45 pm on the IHG stage, rapper Kevin Abstract performed to one of the largest crowds IHG saw that day. The rapper was full of energy and interacted with the crowd the entire time, even performing his first two songs in the barricades while signing merch for fans in the front row. From “American Boyfriend” to “Joyride“, every single person in the crowd sang along to every word. Kevin brought several fans on stage to sing along with him. the song of the set was definitely “Peach” which drew in a whole flood of people walking by. Before “Voyager“, the rapper shouted out San Marcos where his rap group , BROCKHAMPTON, came together after meeting on an Internet forum.

That Mexcian OT

At 5:45 pm on the T-Mobile stage, That Mexican OT performed his set filled with intense beats and crazy flow. The rapper from Texas displays his Hispanic heritage with songs such as “Johnny Fang,” “02.02.99,” and “Texas Meskin.” The rapper even invited a fan on stage due to wearing a specific jersey, which was a fantastic sentiment. As the crowd jumped to the harsh bass, the screen had visuals of a running horse and silver letters shining The Mexican OT. Overall, it is a great set for fans of hip-hop and rap.

Chappell Roan

At 6:45 pm on the American Express stage, the most anticipated act, Chappell Roan, graced the stage in her leather jeans and corset top. After an incredible year, she shared with her fans that this was her last live performance of 2024 and that her voice was a bit hoarse. Despite being slightly sick, she gave an incredible performance with hits such as “HOT TO GO!,” “Casual,” and “Red Wine Supernova.” The screen visuals of her iconic lyrics and pink background flash on the screen so the audience can sing along to her incredible voice. even pink fireworks and lights gleamed on stage as she performed hits such as “Pink Pony Club” and “Good Luck, Babe!” With her high notes in her unreleased song “The Subway” the performance was amazing, and she saved the best live show for last, Austin City Limits.

Tyler the Creator

Still riding that Chappell Roan energy, the crowd went wild at 8:45 pm, as Tyler, the Creator’s headline set began at the American Express stage. The rapper had a large desert plateau on stage with a blue sky projected behind it. Tyler’s 2024 set went through his whole discography from “LEMONHEAD“ to “Yonkers” to “See You Again“. The artist made lots of screeching noises and joked around frequently on stage giving the whole set a more lively performance. The artist mentioned he forgot the lyrics to one of his songs last weekend and asked the audience, “Y’all think I got it?” Tyler’s energy and love for Austin made the late Sunday showing all worth while.

Conclusion

As the last show of ACL finally ended, and that festival high died down, the crowd made their way back to their homes reminiscing of their best memories from this weekend. Its with those wonderful memories and the incredibly talented artists that ACL is able to keep uniting people from all of over the world through the love of music.
