FPSF Artist Spotlight: Allen Stone

Singer Allen Stone self-describes as a “hippie with soul,” but he’s actually more soulful than he lets on.
Stone, who grew up in a small town near Spokane, Washington, began listening to R&B and soul music as a teen. While singing and playing guitar at his father’s church, he collected soul records from the ’60s and ’70s.
At age 19, Stone moved to Seattle to pursue a career in music. Influenced by the works of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and The Meters, Stone recorded and self-released two albums—Last to Speak and the self-titled Allen Stone—in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Stone has received co-signs and accolades from USA Today, MTV and VH1—the latter named him a “You Oughta Know” artist in 2013.
Stone’s most recent album, Radius, was released on Capitol Records in 2015. Radius was re-released by ATO Records as a deluxe edition with seven additional tracks earlier this year.
Stone is currently on tour and will be making a stop in Houston for the Free Press Summer Fest.
