ACL Day 1: Jai Wolf

Written by on October 7, 2019

Jai Wolf started off day 1 with all the good vibes, as he played an early afternoon set at the T-Mobile stage. The electronic producer/DJ blew up after his song “Indian Summer” was released in 2015, as listeners fell in love with his melodic and dramatic yet chill-wave electronic sound.

He played a great mix of his old and new music, with the soft yet vibrant energy he’s known for. I enjoyed that he mixed in a few EDM classics that the crowd jammed to, but also played some of his own well-known remixes like his mix of “Feels” by Kiiara. Bringing in one of his guest vocalists to sing live for one of his tracks was also a great touch for his set.

With the diverse crowd he gathered, it was special to see all of the different people his music attracted that you wouldn’t necessarily expect. His unique identity as one of the few people of color in the world of electronic music (and one of the few Bangladeshi-Americans in music in general) also makes him a special artist right now as he paves the way for a fresh, younger generation of DJs and producers.

In the middle of his show, Jai Wolf told the crowd he would be playing another set at the Honda stage later in the day due to Lil Uzi Vert’s cancellation. He later tweeted a photo of the audience at that stage during his second set, with many fans commenting that it was the stage/time slot he deserved anyway. I couldn’t agree more, as his lovely indie-electronic mix felt uplifting and perfectly fitting for kicking off a great ACL weekend.

If you didn’t catch his set this time around, don’t miss your chance to buy tickets and check him out at weekend 2!
