Festival on the Radar: Fun Fun Fun Fest
Written by Coog Radio on September 1, 2014
Austin is known as the official Live Music Capitol of the World and they do live up to the name. About 250 venues present live music of every genre. Austin is also home to great music festivals. One that has been on the rise since 2006 is Fun Fun Fun Fest.
The first Fun Fun Fun Fest, FFF Fest for short, was held in the fall of 2006 at Waterloo Park. It was one of the smaller line-ups as it was just emerging on the scene. The headliner was Spoon and other acts included Electric Frankenstein, ADHD and Austin’s own The Black Angels.
From there on the FFF Fest increased popularity. The years that followed brought bigger artists and a lot of national attention from music lovers all over. Headliners have included MGMT, The National, Minus the Bear, Crystal Castles, Ratatat, Descendants, Snoop Dogg (now Snoop Lion), Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Slayer, Public Enemy, Run and and so many more. In 2011 the festival began a tradition, adding comedians to the lineup. It is one of the few music festivals that incorporates popular and local artists along with comedic relief. Also in 2011, the festival moved to Auditorium Shores, which is a larger park in Downtown Austin.
One of the most captivating things about this festival by far is the taco cannon. Yes, TACO CANNON. It shoots tacos up to 200 feet in the air and holds 36 to a round.
This year the festival will take place November 7th, 8th and 9th. Headliners include Nas, Judas Priest, 2 Chainz, Glass Jaw, Neutral Milk Hotel, Modest Mouse and many more! Students at the University of Houston have an opportunity to buy tickets at a discounted price. Hopefully, Coog Radio will have a chance to represent this year. If not, I expect to see to see some cougar pride at Auditorium Shores!
For the last two weeks leading up to the festival, Coog Radio will be giving away 14 3-day passes to our lucky Coogs! Keep a look out on the blog and social media to find out how you can win your way in!
