Jason Mraz Concert Review
Written by TIffany Valdez on September 8, 2014
This past Friday night, Jason Mraz graced campus grounds with a fantastic, sold out show here at the University. The concert took place after a pleasant post rain evening at UH’s very own Cullen performance Hall. Since seven pm, the doors were teeming with fans eager to enjoy the cherished musician’s lively, feel good music.
The opening act, Raining Jane, was a mellow bohemian rock quartet that prepped the audience with their melodious harmonies about love, heartbreak and empowerment. Apart from supporting him on tour, the all girl band helped Mraz record his 2014 album, Yes! Apart from being funny, and charming and performing a great three song set, the girls then followed to introduce Mraz, who was welcomed by a roaring and enthusiastic audience. The coffeehouse superstar played a mix of crowd favorites as well as readily engaged with his fans who either knew his songs word for word, or simply bobbed their heads to his musical excellence.
The concert was lengthy, enjoyable and a perfect ending to what was for many, the first couple of stressful days of school. Mraz definitely warmed the hearts of his viewers and brought to UH yet another great star who not only provided a great time, but also left his mark here on our campus which only seems to get more diverse and accomplished by the day.
