ACL Artist Spotlight: Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals

Written by on September 28, 2016

R&B’s golden boy, Brandon Anderson, or better known by the moniker Anderson .Paak and his band, the Free Nationals are known for their hard to classify sound. The Oxnard, California crooner will definitely be bringing the funk to this year’s Austin City Limits Music festival second weekend.

Mixing the vintage sounds and rhythms of 70’s and 80’s R&B artists with edgy acoustics, .Paak falls somewhere in between experimental R&B and old soul revivalism. While his 2014 freshman release, Venice strikes a different chord, maybe a more subtle experimentation with vintage sonics but an obvious ode to fuzzy electronic production. .Paak notes that his influences can be attributed to his teenage years spent behind a drumset at the family church and equally his involvement within Oxnard’s punk/hardcore scene.

Fresh off a highly energetic world tour for the critically acclaimed, Malibu .Paak and the Free Nats are not letting up. If you’re attending ACL this year, prepare for 90 minutes of non-stop high energy, flashy smiles and a handful of “Yes Lawd’s”.

Tickets are available here and be sure to catch his electrifying set on Saturday, October 8th!
