UH Profile: Edwin Mascorro, Coog Radio’s “Most Spirited Coog” Winner

Written by on August 27, 2019

The title of “Most Spirited Coog” was a hotly contested one. With over 70 nominations and 20 nominees, the University of Houston is definitely lucky to have so many students that bleed Cougar Red.

But there are Coogs that wear red on Fridays, there are Coogs that go to football games, and then there’s Edwin Mascorro.

Mascorro, graduating this December with a degree in Public Relations, doesn’t just wear red on Fridays, he’s drenched and painted in it; he doesn’t just go to football games, he strives to give every student the support they deserve by attending over 100 events, losing his voice at athletics events to even tailgating the performing arts.

In their nominations, dozens of students cheered on Mascorro’s school spirit, much like how his school spirit had cheered on hundreds of students.

One nomination said of Mascorro’s love for the University of Houston, “If UH was a person, he would have married that person by now.” When it comes down to it, that’s what the “Most Spirited Coog” title is all about – a powerful and unwaivering love for our campus and community.

Commenting on his win leading up to our interview, Mascorro thanked his friends and nominators: “Thank you to all who nominated me as the Most Spirited Coog. True we’ll ever be, Go Coogs!”
