Austin City Limits Weekend 1 Preview
Written by Diego Cotte on September 22, 2022
Some say festival season is only in the spring. But the live musical capital knows no limits on when a music festival should be. Mark your calendars: Austin City Limits begins October 7th at Zilker Park. Consisting of two weekends and overflowing with big names in the industry and even bigger talent, this festival won’t disappoint!
The first day of the festival features headliners SZA and The Chicks. This day is really great for fans of both R’n’B and Country. Jazmine Sullivan, whose album Heaux Tales has been acclaimed by both critics and fans alike, takes the stage as well as Arlo Parks, James Blake, and Omar Apollo. Pop icon Carly Rae Jepson is going to be performing as well as TikTok sensation Benee.
In the country side of things, we have Noah Cyrus and Zach Bryan performing. And then in the evening, Americana favorites Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Billy Strings.
If you are into hyper-pop or EDM, Day 2 (Saturday, October 8th) is for you. Big names such as Diplo and Flume perform at night time, with Sofi Tukker, Purple Disco Machine, and hyper-pop favorite Slayyyter performing earlier in the day. I know the crowds for those performances are going to be great, so get ready to dance.
The second day also features a great group of R’n’B and hip hop artists such as Sabrina Claudio, Tobe Nwigwe, and chart topper Lil Nas X. This is also a great day for indie-rock/indie-pop fans with internet sensations Conan Gray, Wallows, Role Model, Maude Latour, and The Aquadolls taking the stage. Other artists to note are Aly & AJ (Potential Breakup Song, anybody?) and, of course, the headliner of the night P!nk.
The final day of the first weekend is probably the festival day that I am most excited about, with some personal favorites performing. Another great day for rock fans, some iconic bands such as Paramore, Spoon, and one of the headliners of the night Red Hot Chili Peppers perform.
In the afternoon, we have a slew of indie-pop performances from MUNA, The Marias, Pink Pantheress, Luna Luna, Magdalena Bay, and Japanese Breakfast. If you’re like me and have been wanting to see these artists in concert, this is a great opportunity to see all of them and more!
Other acts that are sure to be a fun time include 6LACK, Goose, Marcus Mumford, Goth Babe, and the wonderful headliner Kacey Musgraves.
In addition to these great acts, every night of the festival this year will have a silent disco for anyone who wants to participate. So if you are a big fan of silent discos or you’ve always wanted to go to one (like myself), this is your opportunity!
Weekend passes for the festival are sold out. But! Single-day passes are still available on the ACL website. It’s gonna be a blast so make sure to grab your tickets and be on the lookout for more information and coverage of the festival from Coog Radio!
