SXSW 2023: a Preview of Austin’s Week-Long Music Festival

From Monday, March 13 to Saturday, March 18 the 2023 South By Southwest Music Festival will be held all throughout Austin, Tx. The festival will showcase hundreds of both up-and-coming and well known artists from all over the world. Some include, PinkPantheress, Divino Niño, Sunflower Bean and Lil Yachty.
Here is a small guide of ways to get around the festival and some of the showcases to look out for!
Showcases
At most showcases during SXSW, attendees are able to see numerous artists in one of the many venues in Austin. From performances in Parish to The 13th Floor, here just a few showcases that have been announced for the festival so far:
C3 Management – 3/15
Held in Antone’s Nightclub, the C3 Management official showcase will be held on March 15, with bands such as alternative groups, Michigander and Romes.
Tiger Den – 3/15
This official showcase will be at Cheer Up Charlies. It will feature many artists from Korea that have created music falling into a variety of genres across the bill. The band co-hosting the showcase is Balming Tiger, a hip-hop group from Seoul.
Gema – 3/16
The German Society for Musical Performing and Mechanical Reproduction Rights (GEMA) is hosting at showcase at Parish on March 16. This showcase highlights European artists such as German band Tangerine Dream and Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra.
Dr. Martens – 3/16 and 3/17
The Dr. Martens official showcase is being held at Clive Bar on March 16 and 17. There will be six performers playing each day with Danny Brown headlining on the first day and Balming Tiger on the second.
Third Man Records – 3/16 and 3/17
This is an unofficial two-day showcase which will be at The 13th Floor. Third Man Records is a Nashville record label founded by Jack White from The White Stripes. As of right now there will be a total of eighteen artists between both days, with more to be announced.
Coca-Cola Creations – 3/17
On March 17, the official Coca-Cola Creations showcase will be at Lustre Pearl Rainy. R&B singer Sudan Archives will headline and five artists, like Coco & Clair Clair and Curtis Waters will follow after.

Transportation
Because SXSW has so many different events within the week, it is important to plan ahead and know how you’ll be getting around. Most of the festival will be walkable, however if you need to get somewhere fast there other options to get you there!
SXSW offers a free shuttle that can take you from Austin Convention Center to many of the venues around the city. You can also utilize ride share options such as SuperShuttle Austin and Uber (however, Uber costs will most likely be higher than normal around this time). Bikes and Scooters can be used for travel as well.

Stay up to Date
As the start date approaches, even more artists and showcases are being announced. The best way to create and keep a schedule for shows is by downloading the SXSW Go app. Here, you can access a digital version of your pass, meet others going to the festival and select which artists you would like to see. A cool thing about the app is that it allows you to see the status of an event. This means before arriving to a show, you can check if the venue has met maximum capacity or not.
SXSW is fast approaching and is going to have plenty of shows and events for everyone to enjoy.
