SXSW 2014 Recap: mtvU Woodie Awards
Written by Sunita Dharani on March 22, 2014
Before spring break, I posted a Throw Back Thursday article about last year’s mtvU Woodie Awards. Read it here. This year’s Woodie awards were unpredictable and displayed the talents of rising musicians that had the world buzzing about them.
The line for the show was wrapped around the block an hour before the doors opened at 3 PM. Unlike most SXSW events, the Woodies are for those ages 18 and up but the crowd was a mix of all different age groups. Once the audience were inside the parking lot turned concert venue, they enjoyed free BBQ, mac and cheese, unlimited Reese’s, Pepsi and other free items provided by sponsors. The host for the show was Charlemagne the God from Guy Code, who I caught filming!
The performances began at 4 PM with Wild Cub as attendees enjoyed free BBQ and were settling down.
After the Wild Cub performance, I went to find some shade in the Reese’s lounge. They had a photo booth, couches, a charging area and couches to rest on.
Check out pictures from more performers at the Woodies festival:
Vic Mensa
Echosmith
Bleachers
Sam Smith
American Authors
Iggy Azalea
Childish Gambino
Other appearances from the show included Lil Wayne, Steve Aoki, Wiz Khalifa, as well as Shailene Woodley and Theo James from the new movie Divergent.
