Declan McKenna to Return to Houston For the First Time in Almost Eight Years
Written by Amarylis Rodriguez on October 5, 2022
On October 20th, Declan McKenna will be concluding his “Zeros” tour at Warehouse Live in Houston, TX. This show is part of the performer’s second headlining tour in the North America, but will be his first ever headlining show in Houston. The last time he performed in Houston was in 2016 while supporting The Head and the Heart on their “Signs of Light” tour.
McKenna is a singer/songwriter from London who has been making music from a very young age. Since releasing his very first song at sixteen-years-old, he has continued to take off in the indie-rock world. From the song “British Bombs” to “Paracetamol,” the artist is well known as someone who uses his music to not only share his personal experiences, but to advocate for positive change in both social and political issues as well. Similarly, the protest song titled “Brazil” has given the performer a major boost of popularity. This song was released as a single in 2015, and later rereleased as part of his debut album, What Do You Think About the Car?, in 2016. After the album’s release, Mckenna did an interview with Sky News explaining that the meaning behind the song is to highlight what he saw as an unfair economic divide in Brazil. The song spent eight weeks on Billboard’s Top 100 Rock Chart after its 2016 release and has even been gaining traction on TikTok recently.
The musician released his most recent album, Zeros, in 2020. With its 70s styled tunes, the album reached number two on the U.K. Chart. He revealed to Apple Music that Zeros was influenced by artists like David Bowie and Fleetwood Mac, which can be heard with the guitar in “Emily” and the ballad of “Be an Astronaut.” Like his previous album, McKenna shared his experiences with the world through songs that are melodic, upbeat and passionate all at the same time.
Supporting the performer on his tour will be Annie DiRusso. DiRusso is a indie-rock artist from Nashville, TN whose discography is full of catchy choruses and strong instrumentals. When the Zeros tour comes to Warehouse Live on October 20th, it is definitely going to be a show to remember. Tickets are still available, but this show is only one out of two that have not completely sold-out yet.
