Just last month Jessie Reyez dropped her newest album YESSIE after a two year wait since her last project BEFORE LOVE CAME TO KILL US. Houston was her third stop on her tour with supporting acts SADBOI and Armani White. The Colombian artist, Jessie Reyez delivered a beautiful show with a live band and vocals that gave you chills all over your body.
The first opening act was SADBOI aka Ebhoni. She is from Toronto, Canada and this was her first time in Houston. She opened up the show with a lot of energy and performed songs like “That’s Your Problem”, which had the crowd moving. From the jump I could tell that she loved dancing and performing because of her fun presence on stage. SADBOI made sure to interact with the crowd by having them turn their phone lights on and sway along with her slower songs. SADBOI was a fun energy to begin the night at the House of Blues.
The next opener was viral TikTok sensation Armani White. Armani White is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and like SADBOI this was also his first time in Houston. He came out with confidence and catchy songs that made you sing along even if it was your first time hearing them. He also did something I have never seen at any concert… he threw out packs of Welch’s Fruit Snacks, which the crowd absolutely loved. Armani also had a friend of his on stage who helped him with background vocals as well as creating an electric energy on stage. He performed songs like “Thanksgiving” which had more of a soulful feel to it and his hit “BILLIE EILISH”. Armani White’s opening set is one for the books and I believe he has great potential.
“I have so much gratitude in connecting with you all tonight after so many hours of rehearsal and sacrifices” says Jessie Reyez while smiling at the crowd. Jessie Reyez is a singer-songwriter from Canada and has Colombian roots. The crowd she brought out at the House of Blues was big and loud, their screams for the singer were some of the loudest I’ve heard. Jessie performed with so much emotion behind her voice that all you could really do was listen to her hit beautiful high notes and runs.
She performed songs like “Sola”, “Imported”, and a stunning cover of the Latino classic “Los caminos de la vida”. Throughout the night I could see the crowd smiling, laughing and even crying because of the show Jessie put on. She closed off her gorgeous set with an inspiring speech to her fans, grabbed her guitar, and sang her hit song “Figures”. Jessie Reyez is continuing her Yessie Tour all through North America and even across Europe, so catch her if you can!
