Social Media Scrolling to Soul Connection: Discovering Lexa Gates

Lexa Gates, “Rotten to the Core” Music Video.

There’s a rare, sacred satisfaction in discovering a new artist and instantly to find you love everything they create. That joy doubles when the universe aligns, and you get to witness them perform live shortly after falling in love with their music. This was my exact experience with Lexa Gates. Thirty days into becoming a die-hard fan, I found myself in the crowd at her concert, screaming her lyrics as if I’d known them for years.

But let’s rewind a bit. My journey with Lexa began in the most modern way possible—scrolling on social media. Months ago, I stumbled across a clip of her “Angel” music video. She was rapping in the backseat of a car, delivering her lines with a quiet intensity. I scrolled past, intrigued but not fully hooked. Then, weeks later, Lexa popped up again—this time in a video of her locking herself in a clear box in the middle of New York City.

This wasn’t just a publicity stunt; it was art in motion. For an entire day, Lexa sat in that box with nothing but headphones, inviting strangers to step inside and listen to her new album, Elite Vessel. The concept was brilliant & caught the internet’s attention, In an age where marketing can feel hollow, Lexa’s approach was refreshing: raw and connected to her craft. Still, it wasn’t until a random TikTok user posted a clip with the caption, “Lexa Gates’ lyrics make me feel normal,” that I took the plunge. The soundtrack to the post? Her song Rotten to the Core, with the line: “I’m so sad, still getting sht done.”

That was it. I dove into her discography, and within minutes, I was crying. Lexa’s music is something you feel as you listen. It was like hearing someone articulate the thoughts I hadn’t yet found words for.

Probably gotta take a fat sht before I leave,” or “Didn’t even brush my teeth today,” somehow manage to be humorous, unpolished, and deeply relatable all at once. There’s a companionship found through her lyrics. Lexa doesn’t romanticize or obscure her reality—she gives it to you straight, and that honesty is magnetic.

Seeing her live only deepened my appreciation. Lexa has a quiet, reserved stage presence that contrasts beautifully with the vulnerability of her music. She opened with Selfish, a personal favorite, and closed with Where Are You, my other favorite (SFCD is my ultimate favorite though). Throughout the performance, I couldn’t shake the urge to hug her and say, “I get it.” There’s something powerful about experiencing an artist before they “blow up.” Of course, I say this in quotes because Lexa’s already selling out shows and expanding her tour to Europe, but you get the point. I’m

Her sound is a beautiful fusion of hip-hop, melodies, and lo-fi beats. If you’re a fan of Amy Winehouse, Mac Miller, Billie Eilish, Earl Sweatshirt or MF DOOM, you’ll find yourself right at home in her discography. She’s alternative in every sense—from her makeup and fashion choices to her introspective unrefined lyrics. Yet, she doesn’t fall into the cliché of being “mysterious” for attention’s sake. Lexa Gates feels genuine, grounded and completely uninterested in playing by anyone else’s rules.

Lexa’s music is where vulnerability meets brilliance. I can’t wait to see her talent reach the heights it deserves. If you haven’t already, let her music become a special sound track to your life.
