#WomanCrushWednesday: Lil Debbie
Written by Coog Radio on July 29, 2015
How well do you remember 2011? It was the year the Internet was introduced to Lil Debbie.
Four years ago, Kreayshawn uploaded the music video for “Gucci Gucci” to YouTube, a song so catchy that it landed her a record deal. Lil Debbie—sporting chunky black glasses and two-tone hair—can be seen next to Kreayshawn in nearly every shot, dancing and lip syncing. Today, that video has over 56 million views and stands as the moment Lil Debbie was brought to our attention.
Lil Debbie, whose real name is Jordan Capozzi, was born and raised in Oakland, California. She became the third member of the White Girl Mob—a group that included rappers Kreayshawn and V-Nasty. The Mob disbanded in 2012, but with the support of rapper Riff Raff, Debbie launched a solo career.
To date, Debbie has released five projects and has headlined a national tour. Though her flavor isn’t for everyone, I have a real respect for Lil Debbie.
Here’s why she’s my #WCW.
She’s confident. Debbie may not be the same caliber of emcee as your favorite female rapper—but in hip-hop, as well as in life, one’s confidence can be attributed to one’s level of success. If you don’t believe you’re great, who else will?
She’s also resilient. During a 2013 interview on Sway Calloway’s morning radio show, Debbie heard some harsh words from a few callers.

Personally, I would have made a career change in the middle of the interview—but if Debbie suffered any hurt feelings, she didn’t let them stop her from making music; in fact, she’s gearing up for the release of her sixth project, the Home Grown EP, on July 31.
Keep up with Lil Debbie on Twitter and Instagram. Look out for Home Grown on iTunes.
