ACL Artist Spotlight: The Revivalists
Written by Charlotte Eberle on September 28, 2017
T-minus two weeks until Austin City Limits returns to the grassy plains of Zilker Park, and it’s coming back with a vengeance. Bringing out big names like Jay-Z, Chance the Rapper, and Ice Cube, they’ve truly outdone themselves with this year’s lineup. Another headliner – who perhaps I’m most excited for – is The Revivalists. With their impeccably groovy take on alternative rock, they will demand your attention as they make themselves at home at ACL 2017.
Formed in 2007, this seven-piece New Orleans band takes alternative music up a notch as they infuse jazz and funk into the heart of it. They made their debut in 2010 with their first album Vital Signs, introducing us to their “groove-oriented, but unconventional” sound, in the words of lead singer David Shaw. Four years later they followed up with City of Sound. Then again, in 2015, they hypnotized with their most recent album entitled Men Amongst Mountains, bringing back that soulful N’Oleans flare and enticing jazz suggestions from Rob Ingraham on the sax and Michael Girardot on the trumpet. Shaw said of the album’s title that it “sums up our collective feeling. We started to find ourselves on festival bills with our idols and in front of huge crowds. We thought, ‘We’re amongst these giants, but we’re holding our own.’ We felt like we stood up and met the challenge by simply being who we are as The Revivalists.” No doubt the same will hold true on the ACL stage as they promise a performance that can’t be missed.
The Revivalists are set to perform both weekends, Friday, October 6th at 6:15 and again on Friday the 13th (same time). All tickets for Weekend One are sold out, but for those of you who love music and want the opportunity to witness all-star performances by The Revivalists and others, tickets for Weekend Two are still available, including three-day and single day tickets. So now’s the time! Get them here.
