Rodeo Artist Spotlight: Marshmello
Written by Morgan Rosenbaum on February 27, 2020
It may not be our first time at the Houston Rodeo, but it is for headlining act Marshmello!
In recent years, Marshmello has burst onto the EDM scene, going from being an up and coming artist on Soundcloud to now headlining festivals around the world. With multiple platinum and even multi-platinum songs to his name, along with an extensive list of collaborations, Marshmello has quickly become one of the most well-known DJs worldwide.
His single “Happier” with Bastille currently has nearly 1.1 billion streams on Spotify, with multiple other songs nearing the 900 million mark. Check it out below!
Known for his trademark helmet and mysterious persona, the DJ has made a name for himself not only on the stage but also online through the ever-popular game Fortnite. In early 2019, Marshmello collaborated with the game’s developers to throw an in-game concert, with more than 10 million players logging on to participate. Making him one of the first artists to engage with his audience in a way that is both so innovative and interactive.
In addition to gaming, Marshmello has a popular YouTube channel with shows such as “Cooking with Marshmello” in which he makes snacks and desserts, often with celebrity guests.
In November 2017, Forbes magazine released an article confirming Marshmello’s identity as Christopher Comstock, known previously at Dotcom. Despite the article, Marshmello continues to play exclusively with his helmet on. The disguise and the fact that Comstock hasn’t confirmed the identity himself continues to attract curious fans to the masked musician.
Listed at number 5 on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs, Marshmello has won and been nominated for a number of awards, including two iHeartRadio Music Awards in 2019, Best New Pop Artist and Dance Artist of the Year, both of which he won. Needless to say, he’s kind of a big deal.
You have a chance to catch this EDM superstar as he is a Friday act for the 2020 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo!
He’ll be playing on March 20th, so hurry and buy your tickets here!
