Ari Lennox Delivers a Magical Night at the House of Blues

Written by on February 27, 2023

The translucent white curtains fell as Ari Lennox took the stage in Houston’s House of Blues while the sold-out crowd began to roar. Dreamville’s first lady released her successful debut studio album Shea Butter Baby back in 2019 and made her return in 2022 with her long-awaited sophomore project age/sex/location. The album was one of Lennox’s top albums so hearing it live was a magical experience.

To open up the Age/Sex/Location Tour, Ari brought along two other RnB rising stars Jai’Len Josey and Alex Vaughn. Atlanta’s own Jai’Len Josey promptly came on stage at eight PM to perform a few songs. Her stage presence was so infectious and engaging that the crowd made sure to get her name so they could look her up after the show! The stand-out songs from her set were “Can You Do It for Me?” and “Good Soup” which were sung with a great amount of soul.

Next up was Maryland native, Alex Vaughn. Vaughn’s 2022 album release The Hurtbook made waves in the RnB community. Her set was full of soul and so much vocal talent. These ladies really made sure to let the audience know they can really sing live. She performed songs like “So Be It”, “Mirage”, and “Junkie”. Alex also played a slower song in which she sat down and played the keys herself, showing off her talent as a musician. Jai’Len Josey and Alex Vaughn are two extremely talented artists who were perfect to warm up the crowd for Ari Lennox.

After two wonderful openers the star of the night, Ari Lennox, came out and the Houston crowd began to cheer. She started off her set with songs like “POF”, “Waste My Time” and ,on the ASL album, “Boy Bye”. “I want to thank all my shea butter babies who have been supporting me,” said Ari as she began to play fan favorites from her debut album. Songs like “New Apartment”, “Whipped Cream”, “Up Late” and, for even deeper fans, “Backseat” had the crowd going crazy.

Ari did not disappoint when it came to her live vocals, but hearing it live with a band is a whole experience. Her sweet charisma and love for her fans had the crowd singing songs word by word. She expressed her love towards the city of Houston and ended the night with her hits “Shea Butter Baby” and “Pressure”. Ari Lennox and the girls are continuing their tour all over the states so if you are an RnB fan this is a must-see show!
