Sharon Jones Brings the Funk to Houston
Written by Coog Radio on February 27, 2014
This past Tuesday a legend visited our great city.
She brought along Tennessee Singer/Songwriter, Valerie June, who charmed the audience with her blues, country, bluegrass and soul stylings. If they didn’t know who she was when they walked in, they sure knew June when she left the stage.
After a short intermission, the curtain pulled back to reveal these fine gentlemen. The Dap Kings. They’re funky, they’re fun, and they got the crowd moving.
When these women took the stage they shook the building with their absolutely wonderful voices.
Each song possessed the energy of a normal concert’s climax. Just when I thought the atmosphere couldn’t be any more electric…
Sharon Jones made her entry and took control with youthful enthusiasm.
And it lasted for the entire show.
It was refreshing to see so many people in the audience. It is my opinion that appreciation of those who laid the foundation of modern music is a necessity. Jones loves music and she loves performing which is why she is still doing both. That love gives her strength and energy. Those of us who can feel that, those who were there on Tuesday, went for one hell of a ride.
