South by Southwest 2023: Day Two Music Recap

The second day of the SXSW Music Festival was a vibe all day long. From local artists to artists from all over the world, the day was sure to prove to be another spectacular performance. Take a look at some of the artists that performed on Monday, March 14 at SXSW 2023.
Spring Break Boogie Day 1
Presented by the Spring Break Boogie, many amazing artists performed at Hotel Vegas and Volstead this year. There were three different stages for artists to perform, one in Hotel Vegas, one in the Volstead and one in the patio area between the two venues. Many artists performed at the same time while the audience could go from room to room and discover a whole new sound.
Opening the day on the patio was Loteria, a country and rock band from Austin, TX. The band performed several songs from their latest album, Texas Toast. The crowd danced along as they poured out their country soul energy. The lyrics were written very beautifully and the crowd loved every minute of it.
In the next room over, speaking his truth, was Chucky Blk, a rapper who is just “trying to be vaguely relevant amidst the chaos of everything.” The rapper’s performance was very powerful and motivating, performing songs from his latest album A Tower and Thereafter. His lyrics speak honestly of his experience and hardships. He performed with high energy and spoke of self love.
Fake Fruit was also in attendance on the patio stage perfoming songs from their debut, self – titled album. The band had a lot of energy, especially from lead vocalist, Hannah D’Amato. The crowd was bopping along to the upbeat rhythms of their music while the band their lyrics spoke raw emotion and social structures.
Choux Choux’s performance a wild and exciting experience. The lead vocalist jumped all over the stage as the crowd danced along. The all-girl band embraced their femininity as they performed and had the crowd cheering and jumping along with them. The Austin band performed songs that are to be released soon as well as their demo single “DayQuil.”
Beyond the Music: ACL Live
First day of the SXSW Music Festival showcased Manchester Artists including, Loose Articles, the Orielles and New Order. Throughout the night, the crowd was full of excitement and enthusiasm.
Opening up the show was Loose Articles, an all-female, melodic, post-punk quartet. The Manchester band was full of high energy and positive vibes, performing songs such as “Kick like A Girl” and their latest single “Chaos.” The lead vocalist jumped around the stage, feeling every powerful beat of their music and the crowd bopped along with them.
As the crowd continued to pour in in anticipation for New Order, the Orielles, an English indie rock band from West Yorkshire, England, took the stage. The English band’s performance was very sweet snd full of high energy. Lead guitarist, Henry Carlyle Wade’s dance moves had everyone beat. The band performed hits from their album Tableau such as “the Room.”
Before New Order came on, Andy Burnham, Mayor of Manchester, came on stage to announce a new global conference and festival called Beyond the Music. Beyond the Music will “create a global forum and live music festival bringing together sectors including tech, AV, gaming, brands and literature. The festival will be a space for artists, entrepreneurs, creatives and music industry professionals to gather together over three days for a series of debates, talks and live music.”
Finally, New Order, an English rock band, entered the stage, and the crowd went wild. The venue was packed with as many bodies as possible, with more fans being turned away at the door. The English band performed hits from their entire collection including “Blue Monday” and “Bizarre Love Triangle“. Fans were singing and dancing with so much love for the English band. It was truly a magical performance.
HTX Music Monday
HTX Music Monday showcased many Houston based artist, including Kristen CheRei, and Jay Amari as well as several DJs such as Ariel Chantel. In between performances, Houston DJs were showcased, including Ariel Chantel, keeping the crowd dancing and the energy high.
Kristen CheRei, a Houston rapper and her “bestie” performed several songs together including singles “Mad” and newest release “Bed.” The rapper kept the crowd moving and even performed in the crowd, inviting fans to dance with her and even sing into her mic. Her music showed her strong connection to her sexuality and her rhythm kept the crowd moving.
Jay Amari, an R&B singer, and his two dancers demanded the crowd’s attention. Amari’s showcased his strong vocals and his smooth dance moves. The singer performed his singles “Wait on Me,” “Right For Me” and “Picture Perfect.”
