On Sunday July 23rd, legendary band, Nickelback brought the Get Rollin’ Tour to Houston at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion along with special guests, Josh Ross and Brantley Gilbert.
Josh Ross
Country singer/songwriter, Josh Ross, opened the night on a high note, playing songs such as “Tall Boys,” “Red Flags” and “Ain’t Doin Jack“. Ross may be new to the music scene, but the truth and soul in his music was timeless, containing lyrics that brought the audience back to their deepest heartbreaks. The singer had the crowd dancing along to each song on his eight-song setlist. Ross even played a cover of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, inviting the audience to sing along which of course brought out the flashlights from hundreds of phones across the crowd.
Brantley Gilbert
Country rapper Brantley Gilbert performed next with energy that matched the fire surrounding his band. Gilbert went through several of his hits, including “Bottoms Up,” “Kick It in the Sticks,” “The Weekend,” and “Son of the Dirty South.” Before performing “Bury Me Upside Down,” the artist talked about his anger towards people online who use their accounts to harass others, and also showed his support for Jason Aldean despite recent criticism. The audience cheered their support for the artist as well. Gilbert left the crowd livened and ready for the headliner, Nickelback.
One of my pet peeves is we live in a world today where nobody gets punched in the face anymore. Just a bunch of keyboard warriors hiding behind cell phones… So I decided the other day I was going to get online and talk back. And I realized I don’t have the passwords to my social media accounts because I’m a liability. And with all this stuff with Mr. Aldean going on, if you had any doubts about where I stand, let me clear it out for you. I got that mans six.

Nickelback
Before Nickelback came out, the band played a short video involving a high speed car chase to get the crowd ready. When the Canadian rock band entered the stage, the audience went wild. The band played several tracks from 2005’s hit album All the Right Reasons and 2008’s album, Dark Horse. Lead vocalist Chad Kroeger‘s continuously made jokes and asked for more Jägerbombs in between songs. The frontman really made the audience feel apart of the show. The band even brought openers Josh Ross and Brantley Gilbert for a tour-wide cover of “Copperhead Road.” Before the hit song “Photograph” was played, the band pulled one lucky lady onstage for “Rockstar” karaoke with the guys.
The night sadly came to an end with “How You Remind Me” and “Gotta Be Somebody” as an encore. The band mentioned during the show that cancel culture has tried to and may keep trying to come for them, but despite their efforts, Nickelback will continue to stay true to themselves and keep making music.
