Florida native, Rod Wave, arrived at the Toyota Center for the Nostalgia Tour with supporting acts Eelmatic, Toosii and Ari Lennox.
With star-studded openers, the first one to warm up the night was Eelmatic. The artist of Rod Wave’s record label mentioned that this was his first tour. Starting as a pianist for Rod Wave and now having set time, he looked delighted to be on stage. He played songs from his album Melodies from Miami with great charisma and energy during his set.
Next on stage was a surprise appearance of Houston’s own Sauce Walka. He was a stage firecracker that made the crowd ecstatic to see him. He jumped around the stage as well as with the fans in the pit to fans in the seated lower section. Sauce Walka performed his hits like “Texas Cyclone” and “Where Was You At.” His hometown showed a lot of love throughout his time on stage.
North Carolina native, Toosii, was next on the Toyota Center stage. After dropping his newest album, Naujour, earlier this year, the artist hit the stage with nonchalant and confident energy. Like Sauce Walka, he also showed massive love to the Houston crowd by walking down to the seated lower section. “I know not everyone can afford the [pit] so I had to show love up here,” said Toosii. He performed songs like “Love is…” , “Another Love Song” and his hit, “Favorite Song.”
The last opener of the night was R&B sensation Ari Lennox. Dreamville’s first lady came out in a cute hot pink two-piece outfit and shined throughout her set. She played songs from her albums Shea Butter Baby and age/sex/location. Ari Lennox delivered a smooth and groovy set for Houston, she smiled and danced all night long. To close her set she performed her recent hit “Pressure.”
Finally, the time had arrived for the star of the night, Rod Wave. Coming to Houston almost a year ago, Rod Wave is no stranger to the Toyota Center. During this tour, he emphasized songs from his recent album, Nostalgia, but made sure to cover songs from his other project for his deeper fans. Rod Wave came out in blue jeans, a white tee, a blue crocodile textured jacket, and of course his big shiny chains. He started off the night with songs like “Sky Priority,” “Poison” and “Green Light.”
Throughout the night the arena sang the songs back to Rod Wave word for word. He has a loyal fan base like no other, some fans were even there since 9 AM to make sure they were at the barricade. Rod Wave put on a show filled with great vocals and so much emotion. He closed out the night with songs like “Checkmate,” “Boyz Don’t Cry” and Great Gatsby.” Rod Wave and the rest of the crew are continuing the Nostalgia Tour, catch them if you can!
