Linkin Park is releasing a new album this year after a 5 year hiatus. The band hasn’t released a new album since the death of their lead singer Chester Bennington back in 2017.

After the death of Chester Bennington in 2017, it was safe to assume that was the end of Linkin Park and their music. What no one knew, however, was that Mike Shinoda had been working on a new way for the band to continue making music. As he stated to Radio as reported by the BBC, “’This is intended to be a new chapter of Linkin Park.’”

The biggest change is the new lead singer, Emily Armstrong. Adding a woman to the mix sparked a bit of controversy as fans had mixed reactions to this news. Some people have criticized the band for replacing Chester Bennington with a woman and would question if she would try and mimic Bennington’s sound. After listening to the songs, though, it’s clear she is bringing her own style to it for a perfect blend of their classic sound and a new era for the band.

A New Sound Equals A New Album

The new album From Zero releases on November 15, and the two singles from the album so far give us a great look at what is to come for the band.

The first single, “The Emptiness Machine,” starts out with the classic Linkin Park sound with the first verse being sung by Mike Shinoda before introducing the voice of Emily Armstrong in the second verse. Armstrong brings crisp vocals and pure passion into the song, even screaming at some points where it adds to the meaning of the lyrics. It feels like perfect song to release first as it still has much of the sound of the old Linkin Park, and fans would agree. This song has even made in to 21 on the Billboard 100 charts. “Heavy is the Crown” is a great transition song from the old sound to the new sound. It’s still immediately recognizable as the band, but the sound has definitely shifted towards this new era for them. Shinoda is still the main vocalist with Armstrong singing the chorus. It’s a great way to ease into this new era and get a feel for the new sound before the entire album drops, and it is working. You can listen to “Heavy is the Crown” here.

Be on the lookout for Linkin Parks new album releasing November 15, you’re going to want to hear it!
