Artist Spotlight: The Flaming Lips

Written by on May 21, 2016

They are known as the sages of psych-rock, spectral explorers of the subconscious mind…
In 2002, they were listed as one of Q Magazine’s “50 Bands To See Before You Die”
And they are coming to Houston…..
LIVE from White Oak Music Hall, it’s The Flaming Lips!

Having formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, these cats are well known for their bizarre stage antics and even stranger sound FX. Accompanied by the synth-driven and guitar-droned atmostophere of the band, it is the eccentric vocal stylings and lyrical composition of Wayne Cohen that makes this group stand out from the rest.

Their sound is made up of “lush, multi-layered psychedelic rock” that contains lyrical elements of “space rock”and “unusual song and album titles.” Their fusion of psychedelic rock and electronic pop combines to form the melodic yet harrowing sound that is The Flaming Lips.

To this day, they have released 15 official LPs, with numerous side albums and cover EPs.
