On Saturday, April 22, Houston cover band, the Xanadudes (Now We Are Here), rocked the house at the Continental Club, leaving the crowd begging for more.

The Continental Club was packed tight for the, Xanadudes, a local seven-member band that specialize in covers of 80’s rock hits; Tomás Escalante (founder/vocals), Blake Powell (bass), Wes Essery (guitar), Phillip White (drums), Mark Beebe (synths/guitar), Mitch Pengra (keyboard) and David Ajin (Saxophone). Before performing, the band gave a special thank you Professor Liz Gates and the University of Houston’s Printmaking department, who created the band’s poster for the event that featured a still from the movie The Goonies. During the performance, the band even had the Goonies playing silently on a projector near the stage.

The crowd loved the high energy of the band and the lead singer, Tomás Escalante, kept the crowd on their feet, especially the front row who were dancing like no one was watching. The band started off with songs like “Melt With You” by Modern English, “Lips Like Sugar” by Echo and the Bunnymen, and “My Best Friend’s Girl” by The Cars. The audience loved every second of the performance, singing and rocking along to every song with so much passion. After which the band invited their saxophonist on stage to perform the next songs with them, including, “The One Thing” INXS, “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” by Daryl Hall & John Oates, and “I Wanna Be Your Lover” by Prince.

The Xanadudes were exciting to watch and have so much to offer. The band will be performing again at the Continental Club on June 24th later this summer. Make sure to catch the show if you can!
