On Friday night, a metal mashup hit Revention Music Center with Lamb of God at the helm. They were joined by thrash metal icons Anthrax, Deafheaven and Texas’ own Power Trip.
The show started off with Dallas’s own Power Trip. This band has been making waves through metal and hardcore gaining popularity. They have gone from playing small DIY venues throughout the country to playing arenas and some of the biggest venues. They were the first to play and did a good job at warming up the crowd. When they started off, the area wasn’t even half way filled. By the end of their set, the venue was full.
The band played most of the songs off of Manifest Decimation, such as “Crossbreaker,” “Hammer of Doubt” and “Murderers Row.” They also played a brand new song, that’ll be on their new album that is due later this year.
Deafheaven was up next and caught everyone off guard. Their weird blend of black metal and shoegaze won several of the Lamb of God fans over. Since the release of their 2014 LP Sunbather, this band has been praised by critics and taking the country by storm. They started off the set with songs off the EP New Bremuda, such as “Brought to the Water” and “Baby Blue” and capped it with their hit single “Dream House.”
After two new bands who’s music only traced back to the beginning of the 21st century till the present, the oldest band on the bill showed them how it’s done. Since their formation in 1981 and the release of their debut album Fistful of Metal in 1984, Anthrax has steadily been releasing classic album after classic album and touring like crazy. After the release of their highly successful 2011 album Worship Music, (the first album with their classic lineup lead singer Joey Belladonna since 1990) the band have come back into form and have a new album dropping at the end of this month.
In support of thw new album For All Kings they played new singles including “Evil Twin,” and “Breathing Lightning.” Besides these new tracks, they also included some of their classic tracks like “Indians,” “Antisocial,” “Fight Em Till You Can’t,” and crowd favorite “Caught in a Mosh.”
At last, Lamb of God took the stage. They started their set off by revealing two large LED screens with their band logo on the screen. They started their set off with the title track off their last album Resolution. They then proceeded to play songs off their new album Sturm Un Drag, including their Grammy nominated track “512.” They couldn’t play a set without their hits such as “Walk With Me in Hell” and “Now You’ve Got Something to Die For.” They ended the set with their two most famous songs “Laid to Rest” and “Redneck,” which was accompanied by a giant circle pit that took up half the arena.
