Artist Spotlight: Hydra Melody

Sometimes after waiting through two openers who were not on the bill you’re somewhat prejudiced towards the third opener, who was also not on the bill. This almost happened to me when Hydra Melody came on stage last Wednesday night, opening for Tilian at The White Swan Live. I rolled my eyes as their full sized band had to set up on a tiny stage. However, 30 seconds into their first song I completely regretted my bad attitude!

Alternative band Hydra Melody from San Antonio, Texas is one of the best openers I’ve seen to date. Their catchy music is very similar to Vinyl Theatre and they’ve been cited as similar to Capital Cities and Imagine Dragons. Their happy sound was able to lift the spirits of a tired crowd, and before they were done with their first song, I knew I wanted to tell the readers of Coog Radio about them.

After performing a small tour opening for Tilian (the lead singer of Dance Gavin Dance), Hydra Melody is back home for now. They have an album called Self-Titled, and they just released a new EP called Stay Right Here, featuring their single by the same name. The band is working very hard to promote their debut album NOCTURNA, due to be released soon.

In the meantime, you can listen to both of their previous albums on Spotify, then grab them on iTunes. Don’t miss an opportunity to follow a young, local band from the ground up. Follow their Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and like their Facebook to catch them in Houston soon!
