Twee Artists That Should Make A Comeback

Written by on January 14, 2022

Twee is a counterculture and subgenre of indie-pop that is categorized as “excessively or affectedly quaint, pretty, or sentimental.” While it originated in the 1980s, it also had a revival in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Recently on Tik Tok, people have been anticipating another Twee revival, and like any good counterculture, it is largely connected to the music of its time. That being said, here are artists that should help bring Twee back.

She & Him

Zooey Deschanel is the quintessential figure of the Twee era. She & Him is a musical collaboration between Deschanel and M. Ward. This article would not be complete without mentioning them.

Regina Spektor

Best known for her pretty lyrics and piano skills, Regina Spektor had the height of her career during the Twee revival of the 2000s. Begin To Hope is one of my favorite albums, and I have been waiting so long for a comeback from her, so here is hoping that we get one soon.

Fleet Foxes

Best known for their iconic “White Winter Hymnal,” Fleet Foxes is an indie-folk band that emerged in the late 2000s. While they have continued to make music since, I think now is the perfect time for them to rise again.

The Shins

This indie band originated in the early 2000s and is one of my favorite bands to come out of this musical era. I have so many memories associated with the album Port of Morrow. If Twee is going to come back, I am going to need The Shins to come along with it.

Sufjan Stevens

Sufjan Stevens had so much influence on Twee pop and the future of indie music; his 2005 album, Illinois, is one of the best indie albums ever written. Stevens has continued to make music and will forever be a songwriter that people will look up to.
