Day For Night Artist Spotlight: Thundercat

Stephen Bruner (born October 19, 1984), also known by his stage name Thundercat is a world renowned performer, and artist, but also is heavily praised for his unique, and creative music style.

Bruner  hails from Los Angeles California, and was born into a family of musicians. Bruner began playing the bass in his early childhood, and by the age of 15 he had a minor hit in Germany as a member of the boy band, No Curfew. One year later he joined his brother as a member of the legendary Los Angeles skate punk band Suicidal Tendencies.

Bruner’s high praise in the music industry stems from his work on Erykah Badu’s New Amerykah and Flying Lotus’ Cosmogramma. Following his work with these artist, Bruner’s released his first solo project in 2011, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, which received high critical acclaim. 

Bruners work eventually led him to work with Kendrick Lamar on his recent album To Pimp a Butterfly, which eventually earned Bruner a Grammy  for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for his work on the track “These Walls” from the album.
